owners of churchill park - green lightThe year long debate on where and how to build the Churchill Path of Destiny Memorial at Churchill Park has taken a big step forward.
The question on whether the bust should be relocated to another part of the park rather than remain in its current location appears to be resolved. The plan going forward will be to enhance the current footpath with a hard surface and path stones containing Churchill quotations. This will be viewed as a general enhancement of the area with hope it attracts more foot traffic towards the Churchill bust. As part of the enhancement the bust of Churchill will be restored. It is now hoped that approval can be received from the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces before final political approval from Copenhagen City Council. More information will be supplied during the planning application process. Thanks are given to the Danish Ministry of Defense and its estates department. End note - An application has been submitted to the Danish Agency for Palaces and Culture.

draft Plan sets out thinking for churchill path of destiny (Memorial)
Recent observations of crowd movement in 2022 at the bust of Winston Churchill in Copenhagen have seen the need to create a hard surface directly in front of the bronze bust or alternatively relocate it away from its current location. This idea is one of many currently being explored.
The famous Churchill quotation; "In War - Resolution, In Defeat - Defiance, In Victory - Magnanimity and In Peace - Goodwill" will be inscribed in the stone and become a main feature to the attraction. The Churchill quotations selected by leaders who supported the project in 2005 will be placed in a path going towards Churchill. International consultations start in 2023 and will listen to all opinions as well as the feedback on social media channels. One of the goals will be to increase the flow of people and raise the level of interest in the bronze monument and the quotations wherever it is finally located. |
